Starting tomorrow we will begin the last six-week grading period of the 2011-2012 school year!

Below are some events that will occur in the month of April:

• Thursday April 12th: Spring Picture Day- All students will have individual photos taken as well as Class Portraits.  Class Portraits must be purchased tomorrow ($12) but individuals packages will be sent home later in the month to preview before buying.

• Friday April 13th: Spelling Bee- The Bee will be held at specific times for each grade level. (8:20 – 5th Grade / 10:00- 3rd Grade / 10:45- 2nd Grade /                                                       1:00- 1st Grade / 2:00- 4th Grade )

• Friday April 13th: Variety Bingo- $20 for 20 Games. Doors will open at 5:00 PM, Bingo will begin at 6:00 PM. Lightning rounds, Concession and Door Prizes will be available.  *** Volunteers are needed.

• Monday April 16th- PTO Meeting . Officer elections will be held. Please plan to attend!

• Wednesday April 18th- Report Card Day.

• Friday April 20th- Fifth Grade students will travel to Washington DC while Kindergarten travels to Charleston for the Circus.

• Friday April 20th- EARLY DISMISSAL DAY!

• Monday April 23- Friday April 27th: Spring Book Fair- Buy one, get one free! ***Volunteers are needed.

May 17th: Hershey Track at RCHS (ages 9-14)

Dates TBD for : First Grade to Pittsburgh Zoo/ Second Grade to Valley World’s of Fun / Third Grade to Blennerhassett Island.

• The last day to purchase yearbooks for the 2011-2012 school year will be Wed. March 13th. All books are $20 or $23 (with name and photo).
• The 5th Grade class will be having an Indoor Yard Sale on Sat. March 17th from 9 AM to 5 PM. Donations will be accepted on Thurs. March 15th or Fri. March 16th during school hours. They would appreciate any items for sale, plastic grocery bags and baked goods. The funds raised from this event will go towards their trip to Washington DC in April.
•  A Red Cross Blood Drive will be held on Friday March 23rd. Volunteers are needed to help at the check in table and provide snacks after donors have given blood. Please contact Angela if you can help.
• Easter Parties/ Egg Hunts will be held at the end of March. Please see class notes for additional information.
• Spring Break will be April 2nd – April 6th.
• April 9th will be an ISE Day (No School). Students will return to school on Tuesday April 10th.

A few Reminders:

• The STARS Program has started up again. Any student interested in participating may do so (even if you did not sign up in Sept.) Please see Mrs. Linville.
• Write names in all winter clothing! Too many of these items end up in the Lost & Found and are never claimed.
• The School Messenger Telephone system will call when school has delays or dismissals. Please make sure you have an updated phone number in our systems if you wish to receive these messages. (Phones with Telemarketer blocks will not accept the School Messenger system)
• If you attend movie night, bring items to make it comfortable! We do have metal folding chairs, but blankets,camping chairs, bean bags, etc are all welcome.
• On days with 2 Hour Delays, no breakfast will be served. Lunch times are still served at the normal times as full days.
• Do not forget to send in Notes when your child has been absent. Please see  the Attendance Policy from the Creed Collins Handbook here.

The following events will be held during the month of Dec.

• Friday Dec 2nd- Longaberger Basket Bingo- Doors open at 6PM. $20 for 20 games. The baskets themselves are worth $35-$100 and each is filled with $50-$100 worth of items!

• PTO Meet first Monday- Dec 5th.

• Thursday Dec. 8th -Christmas Program at CCES Gym for grades PK-2nd.

•  Friday Dec. 9th- Christmas Program at CCES Gym for grades  3-5th.

•  Monday Dec 12th- Friday Dec. 16th- Holiday Store. Students will be able to  purchase holiday gifts for family & friends during school hours. Volunteers are needed to help students find items for those on their list, as well as to help gift wrap.

•  Friday Dec 16th- PTO Free Movie Night- Feature Title The Smurfs. 6PM.

•  Tuesday Dec. 20th- A Schoolwide Field Trip to see The Muppets movie. Please see the permission slip that will be sent home soon.

• Thursday Dec. 22nd-  Pajama Day- Wear your PJ’s to school! (At this time it is unknown if this will be 1/2 day of school) students will be watching Polar Express in the Gym.

•  Friday Dec 23rd-January 2nd- No School.

• Tuesday January 3rd- First Day of School in 2012!

Be sure to look for additional information to be sent home. Individual Classrooms may have Christmas Plays and/or gift exchange activities. 

Reminders:

• If we have Snow Days in December you can find out about closings through your local television channels, radio, School Messenger (the RCBOE will send a recorded message to your phone number on file) or you can click the link on the right (under “Quick Links”.)  

• It is the time of year that MANY items end up in the Lost & Found (coats, hats, gloves, etc…) PLEASE get names on these items, it is a shame how many have to find new owners after sitting in the L&F for weeks.

• Bored kids on Snow Days? After getting out and playing in the snow, have them visit some of these school friendly sites, they will enjoy them! Click Here!

All school volunteers must understand and agree to the  Confidentiality Rules within Ritchie County Schools. The following is a Powerpoint presentation for Volunteers to view. A form will be sent home for each volunteer to sign that they agree to abide by the confidential requirements while in (and out) of the school. Any questions can be directed to your Parent Partner, Title I staff or Principal.
All Volunteers must attend a Training in some form (whether it be held at school, or through this website) before volunteering at any RC School. You can view the presentation below, or download it using the link at the bottom of this page.
