Attendance Policy

Faithful attendance to school is not only a requirement for the State of West Virginia, but it is also crucial to the mastering of important academic skills.  Your child’s attendance is very important to their success at school.  Regular attendance is monitored closely and students with perfect attendance are recognized at awards assemblies.

Formal Attendance Policy of Ritchie County Schools:

Rationale and Philosophy:  The Ritchie County Board of Education believes that regular school attendance is essential for a student’s development in the classroom as well as in their future life endeavors.  Irregular school attendance obstructs the potential to acquire basic skills and the needed credentials for employment, higher education, and overall success in life.

Principles of Operation:  Students are to attend school each day beginning with the school year in which the sixth birthday is reached prior to September 1 of such Year or upon enrolling in a publicly supported kindergarten program.  School attendance continues to the sixteenth birthday or for as long as the student is enrolled in the school system after the sixteenth birthday.
